Now you cannot recover your password by answering a security question, After hitting the password recovery they will send instructions to your secondary email address, you can initiate password recovery from there. If you are unable to access your secondary email address then you need to wait 24 hours to recover password by answering your security question. To over come the accessing problems of secondary email addresses Google added password recovery via text message. Just add your mobile number to your password recovery options and they will send password recovery instructions to your secondary email address as well as they will send a recovery code through SMS.

To turn on this feature for your account, sign in to your Google Account and Click on ‘Change Password Recovery Options,’  You will see the page as shown in the graphic below.

Now click on “Add a mobile phone number“, then enter your cell phone number and click ‘Save.’ Its Done. see the graphic below.

Now, if you forget your password just enter your username on the password assistance page and hit submit, then Google will text you a recovery code. Just enter the code and hit “submit recovery code” to recover your password. See the graphic below.

When ever you access your Gmail on a super slow internet connection, It might take several minutes to completely load your inbox. if you have some new messages to be read after waiting minutes to load inbox, you will go with your messages, But the disappointment is larger when you do not have any new mails to read and even you can save all that time.

With this new Inbox Preview feature of Gmail labs you can see a simple, static preview of your inbox with your ten most recent messages while Gmail is loading. See the graphic below.

So, if you find there are no new mails in your inbox from the preview, you no need to wait for completely loading your inbox, just close and save your time. To enable this feature go to labs tab under settings of your Gmail.

The new Google Search experiment in Gmail Labs, you can search right in Gmail and with just one click send answer over chat or by mail.

Now you’ll see a new search box on the left side of your inbox as shown in the graphic below.

Type your search and hit enter. A window (like a chat window, but a bit bigger) appears at the bottom of your screen with the first few search results.

If you click on search result, it will open in a new window or tab. If it is the right result for you, just move your mouse over the result back in Gmail reveals a pull-down menu that lets you do stuff with the search result.

The menu items depends on what you’re doing in Gmail:

• If you’re reading a message, you can start a reply to the message with the search result as the first thing in your reply.
• If you’re writing a message, you can paste the result, or just the URL into your message.
• If you’re chatting with someone, you can send the result via chat.
• You can also always compose a new message to send the search result.

You can turn on Navbar drag and drop in Labs so they can move the web search box up to the top where it’s easy to get to, said Adam.

Previously Gmail had  “View as Slideshow” to view PowerPoint files. Now they integrated this this technology to Gmail viewer which is used to see PDFs and TIFFs.

This new viewer provides you rich set of features. You can zoom in and out, select text to copy and paste, and "print" the presentation to a PDF document. And, unlike the old version, Gmail no longer require you to have a Flash plug-in installed on your browser.

“Gmail online viewer gives you the option to "print" the TIFF by opening it as a ready-to-print PDF’ said Marc Miller, Software Engineer.

If you enable this feature in Labs under settings, you’ll see suggested recipients while composing messages. Gmail “ Suggest more recipients” feature suggest people based on the groups of people you email most often. But to get suggestions you need to enter at least two recipients. So if you write email to mom and dad it will suggest you sister to add.

Suggestions will shown like in the graphic below.

Click on a suggested name, and they’ll get added to your email.

If you click on show details and you can see when the message was sent in the senders time zone as well as what time it is for them now.

When you compose an email in Gmail you can see a an icon with an Indian language Hindi character as show in the graphic.  This feature is enabled by default for Indian Gmail users. However if you do not see this feature, you can enable it in settings page under Language section.

Select the Indian language icon and select you language of choice from Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. And type words the way they sound in English ( Transliteration ) and Gmail will automatically convert the word to its Indian local language equivalent. This feature is also available in Orkut, Blogger, iGoogle and Gmail India labs.

New Features Added to Gmail recently

Undo Send: Now you can undo sent email in Gmail with Undo Send feature. Turn on Undo Send feature in Gmail Labs under settings. Then you will see a new “Undo” link on every sent mail confirmation. Just click Undo to stop the message sending and take it right back to compose.

The feature just holds your message for five seconds so you have a chance to hit the panic button.

This feature can’t pull back an email that’s already gone, but just holds the sending mail for five seconds, so if you found any mistakes in your message just click undo button within five seconds, then the sending message will stop and it will take back to message composing.

You Tube, Picasa, Flickr and Yelp Previews in Gmail:

We generally send the web addresses to Picasa album or You Tube video to our friends through mails. They have to click on the links we sent and open them in web browser to see. But if you Turn on YouTube videos, Picasa and Flickr links, and Yelp reviews  the Labs tab under Settings, then Gmail automatically detect links in emails and show videos, photos, and ratings right inside these messages as well.

If you Turn on Picasa previews, Rather than having to click on a Picasa album link to see the photos it contains, you can see photos right in the message itself.

How to manage several email accounts with Multiple Inboxes

1. Turn on Multiple Inboxes from the Labs tab under Settings.

2. Setup a filter to auto-archive all mail sent to your work or school address.

3. Customize one of your multiple inboxes to show mail sent to your other address. To do this, go to the Multiple Inboxes tab under Settings and set up one of the panes to search for mail sent to your other address.

4. (Optional) Use a "custom from" address so that replies will be sent from Gmail but as if they’re from your other account. This way, your coworkers or classmates won’t know the difference.
