Google recently launched a new service Offline Gmail which enable users to access Gmail even they disconnected from the Internet. This Google lab feature is amazing. Accessing Offline Gmail is same as accessing Gmail when you connected to Internet.Google uses Google Gears technology to store your mails in your computer as local cache.

How to enable Offline Gmail service for your account?

Go to Labs tab in Gmail settings and select enable button next to the Ofline Gmail, then click on save changes button.

Now click on offline 1.0 link in the right upper corner. It will take you to the installation of Offline Gmail.

Now a pop-up screen will appear showing Install offline access for Gmail along with a warning message as Please make sure it is not a public or shared computer. Click on next to start the installation process.

In the next step a Google gears security warning window will appear. In that you have to select the check box I trust this site Allow it to use Gears. And click allow. This permission enable Gears to access your Gmail as well as your hard drive.

Now a window appear that asks you where you want to create shortcut to Gmail.

Next step synchronization. It start synchronizing process that downloads mails to computer. This process could take a while. You may continue using Gmail while creating local cache, because gears is multithreaded.

If the downloading of email messages is over, it turns to download attachments. When the download is complete it shows a message as shown below.

After enabling Offline Gmail, go to settings and then click offline tab. It shows date range and other options.

Gmail automatically detects whether you are online or offline. When you are offline it shows a green circle with a tick mark else it shows a gray circle with bar in the right upper corner.

If you want to sign-in to Gmail when you are disconnected just click on the Gmail shortcut while created during the installation of Offline Gmail. It will open in the browser as same as Gmail sign in page. But here you have to enter only email id and no password.
